Alongside our Spanish lessons, we host diverse, fun, and interesting daily afternoon activities and a weekend excursion. Engaging in activities outside the classroom is a fantastic way to enhance your Spanish skills, immerse yourself in Guatemalan culture, and to get to know your fellow students a little bit better. As a small school, we tailor activities to student interests each week. Whether you’re interested in visiting a local art gallery or attending a Xelajú MC soccer match, we aim to offer experiences that not only enrich your language learning but also provide insights into life in Guatemala.
Our variety of activities
Our activities offer a rich blend of experiences both at the school and beyond. Within the school, you can enjoy cozy gatherings such as movie nights or cooking sessions to learn how to make traditional Guatemalan snacks. In Xela, we immerse you in local culture with salsa dance classes and visits to unique museums, including a doll-making factory, a chocolate museum, a museum of traditional clothing, and bowling outings for some lighthearted fun. For those eager to explore further, we organize excursions outside of Xela to rural communities, local markets, archaeological sites, and stunning natural wonders like mountains, volcanoes, and volcanic hot springs. These activities are designed to enhance your cultural understanding and provide ample opportunities for practicing Spanish in diverse settings.
Timeframes and costs
The timeframe of the activities ranges from shorter ones that last about an hour and a half to half-day events and even some weekend trips, to fit different schedules and interests. Our activity coordinator, Kristian, is your go-to guide for most of these fun outings, and since we don’t charge for guiding, many of our activities are free! Just so you know, if there are any entrance fees or transportation costs, we’ll let you know ahead of time. And of course, joining any of these activities is totally optional. You choose what works best for you!
Independent activities and transportation
We are also happy to help you book independent activities and transportation through local tour operators and guides. We can arrange airport pickups in Guatemala City or coordine shuttle transportation from locations such as Antigua, Lake Atitlan, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Lanquin, and other areas.
